The shophouse
The clinic was founded in 1986 by The founder. It is now run by his daughter and grandson, both registered TCM practitioners with the TCM Practitioners Board.
We have not moved units in thirty-nine years. The same a Chinatown shophouse street shophouse, the same wooden cabinets, the same pulse-reading desk at the back.
The shop also stocks loose-leaf herbal mixes for walk-in customers. Prescriptions are by consultation only.
The shophouse itself is one of the original two-storey row of pre-war buildings along Mosque Street. The ground floor is the clinic; consultation rooms at the back, the dispensing counter and herbal cabinets in front. The upper floor houses the family.
We have not renovated the shop floor since 1986. The wooden herbal cabinets are the same. The pulse-reading desk at the back is the same. Our patients sometimes joke that the only modern thing is the practitioners.
Heritage status
Mosque Street is part of Singapore's Chinatown Conservation Area. The shophouse is protected by URA. We work within those constraints: no major structural changes, period materials where possible, original signage. Our shop sign in gold leaf over black lacquer is a 1986 original, repainted by hand by the calligrapher's grandson in 2019.
