About the association
The East Coast Heritage Association was established in 1957 by a group of Marine Parade residents whose families had migrated from Fujian in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
We exist to keep the language, the food traditions, and the festival calendar alive for a community that is otherwise four generations from its village. We are a non-profit, registered with the Registry of Societies.
Membership is open to all of Hokkien descent and their families. We have always welcomed non-Hokkien spouses, friends and neighbours.
Founding principles
We organise within our community for member families in difficulty, before turning to external sources of support.
Hokkien speech, Hokkien festivals, Hokkien recipes. The things that wouldn't survive without intentional teaching.
Bursaries for member-family children since 1962. We have supported 480 students through tertiary education.
Membership is open to anyone of Hokkien descent. We have always welcomed spouses, friends and neighbours of other backgrounds.
