1957
Founded by twenty Marine Parade residents whose families had migrated from Fujian in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
1962
First scholarship awarded. A member family's daughter, the first in her family to attend university, supported through medical school.
1973
Hokkien language classes begin. Reaction to a generation of children growing up unable to speak with their grandparents.
1985
Building on Marine Parade renovated. Functions hall capacity expanded to 180. Used since by hundreds of weddings and red-egg parties.
1997
Membership crosses 2,000. Founding generation begins to step back; second-generation members join the council.
2012
Membership crosses 4,000. The association serves a community spanning Marine Parade, Joo Chiat and Bedok.
2024
Hokkien-class third generation begins. Some of our students are grandchildren of the original 1973 cohort.
