A note from the practice
I spent fifteen years inside operating roles at three companies — two of which I joined pre-fifty-headcount and one of which I helped sell. Since 2015 I have advised founder-led businesses independently.
I work with twelve companies at any time. I have no employees, no junior team, no template deck. You get me, and the file in my head from the last decade of similar problems.
I will tell you when I am the wrong person for your problem. I do not take engagements that are mostly project management or mostly therapy.
Specifically: I take on twelve engagements at a time. Most are quarterly operating reviews. A few are embedded engagements where I work two days a week with a founder for a defined window. Occasionally a single-question advisory: one half-day, one written answer.
I will tell you when I'm the wrong person for your problem. The kind of work I'm not the right person for: pure project management, mostly therapy, anything that requires me to be a substitute for a permanent head of function. If your problem is "we need a CFO for six months," you don't need me. You need an interim CFO.
What I bring to a room
Fifteen years inside operating roles. I've actually made the decisions I now advise on.
I've seen the version of your problem at three other companies. I'll tell you what worked and what didn't.
I will push back when I think you're wrong. That's what you're paying for. Yes-people work for free.
